A new presentation accredited by the American Institute of Architects has been added to MPS’s list of informative lectures. Focused on masonry preservation, the presentation is summarized as follows:
“Preservation of historic masonry buildings is crucial to maintaining our architectural heritage but requires specialized expertise to properly execute. Follow masonry restoration techniques from procurement of custom brick shapes, terra cotta, and cast stone to historically accurate detailing with modern enhancements. Reconstruction of various masonry assemblies will be reviewed, including balconies, arches, corbels, and crenelated parapets. Recognize how concealed conditions impact the repair scope and restoration plan. See how the combination of quality work, skilled craftsmen, and faithful historic restoration can propel a project to success and how faithful restoration with replicated materials and architectural integrity can bolster support within the community.”
